Kindstart
Windows app, focus and planning
Coming soon Working name
Pick one thing, shrink it to a tiny first step, and get started.
Kindstart never says “overdue”. It barely says “due”.
No screenshot yet. It's still on the workbench.
Where it stands
The app, the Windows shell with its always-on-top pill and global keys, the offline Pro license and an accessibility audit are built and tested. Still to do: a check on real Windows hardware, a signed installer, picking a recommended local model, and finding beta testers.
Kindstart is for the moment before you start. Dump everything on your mind, pick one thing, break it down to a first step that takes two minutes or less, and work alongside a gentle timer that doesn't scold you for running over. It runs on your Windows PC with no account.
Early builds call it Focus Companion.
Who it's for
Adults with ADHD, and anyone else who has trouble starting tasks or loses track of time, who works at a Windows PC and is tired of subscriptions and accounts.
What it does
- Brain dump to list: paste or type everything on your mind, see a preview, and nothing you typed is ever dropped.
- Break it down with built-in templates for everyday jobs, at three levels of detail. The first step always takes two minutes or less, and no AI is needed.
- Estimates shown as ranges, never false precision. No due dates and no "overdue".
- One thing now: a small window that stays on top and shows just your next step, without taking the cursor from what you are typing.
- A gentle focus timer: count up, count down or a soft target. Running over reads "Still going", never red, and breaks never end on their own.
- Calm by design: no streaks, points or badges, no guilt words, and undo for every destructive action.
- Keyboard first, with global keys to show the pill, capture a thought or start the timer from anywhere.
- Light, dark and high-contrast themes, text up to 200 percent, reduced motion and screen-reader-friendly timer updates. Accessibility options are never paid.
What it keeps, and where
Your tasks, steps, notes and focus sessions stay in one file on your PC. There are no analytics, crash reports, ads or third-party SDKs.
- Network use
- Update check (on by default, and you can turn it off); Try local AI (Pro) (off until you turn it on).
- What reaches Lanternwright
- Nothing.

Questions
- Is it a subscription?
- No. The core is free forever, and Pro is planned as a one-time purchase.
- Do I need AI?
- No. Breakdown works fully offline with templates. Local AI is an optional Pro extra that uses a model you run yourself.
- Will it nag me about streaks or missed days?
- No. It has no streaks and no idea what a missed day is. Coming back after a week looks the same as coming back after an hour.
