Mimir
Windows app, tabletop game tools
Coming soon Working name
Say a name at the table and its card from your campaign notes shows up on screen.
No screenshot yet. It's still on the workbench.
Where it stands
Pre-release. It's been running at my own game table for about a year and is now being turned into something other people can install. Done: the setup command, spend caps for optional AI, the offline license, Scribe and the privacy controls. Next: consent records for speaker enrollment, speech engines matched to your hardware, then Windows packaging.
Mimir listens at the table on your own PC and shows the matching card from your Obsidian notes, or from the free SRD 5.2.1 rules, the moment someone names a character, place, spell or monster. Its Scribe feature turns a recorded session into a speaker-labeled transcript and a recap note in your vault. Speech is transcribed on your machine, so your table's voices stay in the room.
Who it's for
Game masters who keep their notes in Obsidian and run games in person or online.
What it does
- Recall cards from your own notes: say a name and its card appears, pulled from your Obsidian vault and the free SRD 5.2.1 rules. Phonetic matching copes with the invented names speech recognition always mangles. No generative AI is needed.
- Scribe: give it a recorded session (one file per player, a zip or one mix) and it writes a speaker-labeled transcript and a recap note into your vault. It runs on any CPU and a re-run never overwrites a note you edited.
- Private by design: audio is processed on your machine and not saved unless you turn it on. One command lists everything Mimir keeps and another deletes it.
- Optional AI, off by default: use your own API key or a free local model, with per-session and monthly spend caps on from the start.
- Floats over any table: an always-on-top overlay for your virtual tabletop or a paper table, plus a page for a tablet or second monitor.
What it keeps, and where
Mimir runs on your computer and transcribes speech there. There is no Mimir account or server, no telemetry, and the license is checked on your PC. Nothing about your game leaves your computer unless you turn on a feature that says it does.
- Network use
- AI answers and recaps (off until you turn it on); Discord voice feature (off until you turn it on); Model downloads (on first use).
- What reaches Lanternwright
- Nothing.

Questions
- Do my players need to agree?
- Yes. Transcribing people is recording them, and some places require everyone's consent. Mimir prints a plain-language notice for your group that describes what your settings actually do, and you can mute a track or turn Mimir off for a session.
- Is there a session limit?
- No. Scribe runs on your own PC, so there's no per-session fee or monthly cap.
